Founder, Transparency Cleaning Services
Firefighter photo can be uploaded from the admin area.
I started Transparency while working as a firefighter here in Burgess Hill.
At first, it was something I built alongside the fire service. But as time went on, I genuinely fell in love with the work, the customers and the satisfaction of transforming someone's home.
I kept learning. One service became another, my knowledge grew, and gradually Transparency became about much more than simply cleaning — it became about looking after the whole exterior of someone's home.
My years in the fire service had a huge influence on how I run Transparency today — particularly when it comes to safety and working at height.
As a firefighter, I received extensive training around working at height, assessing risk and operating safely in challenging environments. I also experienced situations where staying calm, assessing the risks properly and choosing the safest way to complete a task really mattered.
That mindset has stayed with me. Exterior property work can involve roofs, ladders, access equipment and difficult-to-reach areas. I'm very comfortable working at height, but more importantly, I'm conscious of never allowing confidence to replace good judgement.
Before difficult access work, we assess how the job can be completed safely and choose the appropriate equipment and method. Sometimes the professional decision is also to say:
“We're not happy with the risk of doing it that way — let's find a safer way.”
Safety isn't something we bolt onto a job afterwards. It's part of how Transparency approaches the job from the beginning.
From the beginning, I've always tried to approach every job with one simple mindset: treat every customer's home as if it were my parents' home.
That principle became even more important when my own parents needed work carried out on their property. Trying to help them get everything sorted opened my eyes to just how frustrating it can be as a homeowner — poor communication, disappointing experiences and the hassle of finding different people for different jobs.
It helped shape the company I wanted Transparency to become. A company where customers feel comfortable asking questions. Where we photograph and explain what we find. Where you're never pressured into work you don't need. And where, if something isn't right, you know you can simply call us.
“This shouldn't be this difficult.”
If you've ever got a concern after we've completed work, call us. No awkward conversations, no trying to avoid responsibility and no making you feel like you're being difficult.
We'll be happy to come back, take a look and do our best to put things right. Because I never want a customer to finish their experience with Transparency feeling disappointed, pressured or let down.
We've grown a lot since those early days alongside the fire service, but the principle hasn't changed: look after every home as if it belonged to someone we love. That's what Transparency means to me.
